LIVINGSTONE.

August 16.—W0 have been having very beaut.ful weather of late—in fact, it has been as mild as summer. Water for all purposes is somewhat scarce. Such a dry spell will not be beneficial to the district. Signs are evident of an early spring. Many of the trees arc budding already. Lambs have appeared in some of the pastures, and should do well, owing to the good start they have had. The war is the topic of the day. and wo hoard with regret that one of the boys from our district (Herbert Lory) had boon wounded. However, we hope that we may shortly hear of his recovery. Patriotic . Concert.—A concert in aid of the North Otago Queen was hold in the Livingstone Hall on Thursday, August 12. The night being beautifully fine, a record attendance was the result. A splendid programme had _ been arranged, and was thoroughly enjoyed by all present. The queen (Mrs Cowie Nichols) was present, and was introduced by ITs Worship the Mayor of Oamaru. She was presented with a bouquet by little (Miss Zena M'Quade. Mr do Lautour’s orchestra was present from Oamaru. and supplied delightful music. The chair was occupied by Mr Herbert Lory, who filled iiis position admirably. Those who supplied items for the concert were Messrs do Lautour. Thompson, Smith, Mrs Thomson, and Misses Payne and Frith. The Mayor of Oamaru delivered a patriotic speech. Miss Gerard was the accompanist for the evening. A collection gathered "n the flag amounted to £6 4s 6d. The concert terminated at 10.30. and an enjoyable dance followed. Mr Wilson officiated as M.C., and music was supplied by Mr J. Patterson, Miss Beck, and Mrs Carnegie. The takings at the door amounted to £l2.
