CALL FOR WORKERS.

EMPLOYMENT AT TRENTHAM. WELLINGTON, August 16. Within the past few weeks the various agents for the Labour Department have sent almost 400 workmen to Trentham camp, and an additional score to Featherston. The majority of the men have been drawn from Wellington City, but fairly large numbers have come from Christchurch, whilst Timaru, Ashburton, Blenheim, Wanganui, Palmerston North, and Auckland have sent a quota. Wherever carpenters have been obtainable they have been offered work at Trentham. In fact, the department has made a special appeal to competent men to proceed at once to take up employment at the camp. General labourers have also been called on in large numbers. Among the workers are several men who have enlisted and are waiting to be called up for service with the reinforcements in Wellington. This call for workers has practically put an end for the time being to unemployment amongst labourers and carpenters. The pressure in Christchurch has also been relieved considerably*
