FOUR AEROPLANES DESTROYED. AMSTERDAM, August 9. A German communique states ; Our battle aeroplanes near Dammaryirch, Ypres, Harboney, and Gondrescange destroyed four aeroplanes, including two belonging to a squadron which bombarded the open town of Saarbrucken, though without causing any military damage, but killing nine citizens. SAARBRUCK BOMBARDED. PARIS, August 10. Official : A squadron of 32 bombardment aeroplanes, escorted by aeroplanes for pursuit purposes, loft this morning to bombard the station and factory at Saarbruck. The weather was unfavourable, the valleys being shrouded in mist, but 28 aeroplanes reached the goal and dropped 164 shells, while the escorting aeroplanes kept off the
enemy aviators. Numerous columns of smoke were observed. A GERMAN INVENTION. LONDON, August 10. A neutral, who has toured Germany, states that German chemists have overcome a difficulty by using wood pulp to replace cotton in the manufacture of high explosives. The chief difficulty is to eliminate the impurities. Three large factories employing 4000 hands are now engaged in making pulp. REGISTRATION IN BRITAIN. LONDON, August 9. Twenty-seven millions of registration forms in England, Scotland, and Wales have been served to persons between 13 and 65 years of age at their homes. There are 20,000 known occupations which are expressed in 500 definitions, coded into 46 divisions for men and 30 for women.
