FIERCE FIGHTING.
FRENCH COMMUNIQUE. PARIS, August 12. A communique states: The German attacks at Marie Therese (Champagne) and I ontaine-aux-Charmes (Argonne) were completely repulsed. There was fairly lively fighting from trench to trench in Bois-le-Pretre (on the, Moselle, Lorraine front) with grenades and large bombs. A German attack at Linge (Vosges) was repelled after grenade fighting. Advices from Basle state that some Bavarian regiments were almost annihilated when attacking Thann. French batteries have compelled the Germans to evacuate Dornach (near Mulhausen). Official : Our counter-attack regained part of the trenches oast of the Vienne-le-Chateau-Binarville road. There is great artillery activity in the northern Woevxe region, at Bois-le-Pretre, and at Barrenkopf. The enemy bombarded Raoneltape, killing a few civilians. GERMAN COMMUNIQUE. LONDON, August 12. A German communique states; In France, north of Vienne-le-Chateau, we captured a group of fortifications. The enemy’s losses were severe. AT YPRES AND LA BASSEE. AMSTERDAM, August 13. There have been numerous German desertions owing to an impending resumption of a general attack upon the Ypres-La Bassee line. An order of the day issued to the German army contains the following : —“ Our work is practically finished in the east, and we are about to begin in the west. Peace is certain to come in October.” GOING WESTWARD. AMSTERDAM, August 13. There has been a notable increase within the last few days of German troops traversing Belgium towards the western front.
