THE NATIONAL RESERVE.

COMPETITION IN WELLINGTON. WELLINGTON, July 18. About 1000 people were present at Newtown Park on Saturday afternoon to witness tho drill competition between tho various units of the National Reserve belonging to the Wellington military area. The spectacle which was afforded was worthy, of % crowd of onlookers of 10,0 CO. Probably this would have been the case had the com* petition taken place as originally arranged on the preceding Saturday. Unfortunately, a postponement was rendered necessary through a heavy downpour of rain. Tho winning team that secured tho National Reserve flag, donated by Cr L. W. M'Kervzie, was from Haitaitai. Wellington South was second, and Miramar came next, with Thorndon and Wadestown (equal), a good fourth.
