PALMERSTON NOTES.

• (From Our Own Correspondent.) PALMERSTON, July 15. Last Sunday the Anglican Church had a special offertory to help to pay off the debts that have accumulated during the last two years, amounting to some £l6. Archdeacon Woodthorpo preached at both services, and on each occasion gave a powerful address. The collections amounted to nearly £l2, so there is only a small deficit to be met. A football match was played on "Wednesday afternoon in aid of 'the Country Queen Pund. ihe teams were composed of ladies who played Married v. Single. All the players dressed in fancy costume, and had. their faces variously coloured /which gave them a grotesque and weird appearance. The play was hardly up to first grade form, but the efforts of the players were greatly enjoyed by a large number of spectators. The gate takings amounted to about £l4. The monthly vestry meeting of the Anglican Church was held on Tuesday, when it was decided to ask all the poor parochial f districts in Otago to co-operate in trying to have the levy for the Pension Fund put upon a pro rata basis at the next sitting of the Synod. It was held that it was not fair that the poor parishes should pay £6 towards this fund, while those which were well off had to pay only the same amount. The weather seems to have completely cleared up, the last two or three days having been simply perfect. A frost at night followed by a bright day is the rulo juss now.
