LIEUTENANT-COLONEL LOACH.

Several letters were received by Mrs Loach on Tuesday from her husband, Lieu-tenant-colonel Loach, who was recently wounded at the Dardanelles (states the Lyttelton Times). Writing on Juno 2, on board the hospital ship Delta, ho said that he was on his way to England as it was found that the heat at Cairo was too severe, being as high as 102cleg in the hospital every day. It had originally been intended that ho should return to New’ Zealand, but the doctors were against this step as they considered that the intense heat on tiio voyage and the prospects of a winter in New Zealand would endanger his health. Ho had been informed that after remaining in England some time he would be sent out to New Zealand, but as soon as his

wound was Jipaled, he would bo returned to the firing line. The writer stated that the reason why so many wounded men were being taken to England was because the doctors were afraid of septic poisoning petting _ in, if they remained in the hospitals at Cairn and Alexandria. A good many men had already been lost through septic poisoning. The' wound which Lieutenant-colonel Loach received was caused by an explosive bullet striking his log under the knee. It left him very weak, and he has been told that ;Mi operation is necessary in order to save the leg. Lieutenant-colonel Loach was promoted from the rank of major in recognition of his excellent work during the fighting at the Dardanelles.
