LETTER FROM DR BEGG.
A very interesting letter from Colonel (Dr) Beg", who is with our troops at the Dardanelles, has been received by Mrs Chatfiold (secretary of the Wellington Victoria League). Colonel Begg, who is a son of the late Mr A. C. Bogg, of Roslyn, says: “I must first write a note to let people in Wellington know how very useful all the comforts they provided for the forces have been. As you will have heard, wc unfortunately needed a very large supply, and out of the stores provided in Wellington we have been able to meet nil demands up to the present. What we chiefly need is more pyjamas—they have been in greatdemand. . . . The Field Ambulance has had a busy time, arid wo have bad more surgery to do irj the last throe- weeks than the average doctor sees in a lifetime. All our work is done under heavy fire, and two days ago, while I was operating, a 12pounder shell came through the wall and buret inside. By a miracle, no one was nit, but it made a fearful moss. None of mv officers have been disabled yet,but have had narrow escapes. I have boon hit twice—once by a shrapnel bullet and once by a shell fuse, —but with no results beyond stiffness, I am glad to say, I think the peoplo of Now Zealand can be confident that everything possible is done for the _ sick and wounded.” Dr Bog.g's friends will be glad to know that Mrs Begg has received a. cable from him within the last few days reporting “All well,” so, although placed in tho midst, of many and great dangers, ho and hie staff arc carrying on their splendid work.
