, OAMARU STOCK MARKET. (From Odr Own Correspondent.) OAMARU, .> 'y 17. The stock market has shown a nr lightening tendency, and an improvement in the volume of business. There is a growing demand for sheep, width only a limited number of sellers. The yarding at tins week's sale was small, and consisted of a few pens of fat lambs and fat owes. The former sold at up to 24s for prime heavyweights, and the latter realised 18s. A good number of sheep have changed hands privately. The chief inquiry is for breeding owes in lamb, and those have sold readily at the following prices in fair sized lines:—Two-tooth, 22s fid and 235; mixed four and six-tooth, 245; mixed two, four, six, and eight-tooth, 245; mixed two, four, and six tooth, 22s 6rl. Ewe lambs have sold at from 15s to 17s, according to size, brood, and condition. Mixed sexes’ lines of store lambs have found buyers at from 14s to 15s, and fat and forward lambs have been token at 10s. Fat wethers have been placed at from 23s to 245, and fat ewes at 235. There is really nothing to report in regard to cattle, beyond noting the fact that they are in request and very .scarce. SOUTHLAND STOCK MARKET. (From Odr Own Correspondent.) INVERCARGILL, July 17. This has been one of the best weeks for business in stock, inquiries for all classes being exceptionally strong—in fact, much above the supplies available. Graziers and buyers concentrated their attention on good forward wethers, and many thousands have changed hands during the week at prices as high as 26s for good forward sorts. With the freezing works opening norv there is sure to be a considerable quantity of fat sheep and fat cattle going in, and stock will therefore be very scarce. A good number of farmers still have turnips, and, in the rush to got the ground cleared for spring ploughing, are sure to buy heavily, and prices will continue firm. The outlook of the market, however, for all classes of stock, with the practical certainty that wool is going to bo high in the event of another winter campaign, and also cheese and butter bringing abnormal prices, must bo considered more satisfactory than _ for _ many years past. There is also keen inquiry for good forward well-grown hoggets, the demand being in excess of the number offering. There are a number of graziers who have always filled up at this time, taking a good many thousands, who are going to hold off for a month or two; but it is not anticipated that prices will be slacker at that time than at present, even though they are so high now. There is also a much keener demand for good forward bullocks and young stores, good thrce-year-old forward'sorts having shown an advance of fully 30s per head during the past 10 days, while good young stores have also advanced fully 20s per head.
