MASTER BUTCHERS.
DOMINION CONFERENCE. PALMERSTON N., July 8. A conference of master butchers of the dominion, held here to-day, was largely attended. Mr W. C. Hampton (Wellington) presided. It was decided that a federation of master butchers be formed, also that the Government bo asked to increase the compensation for condemned stock to 75 per cent., and that a vendor be compelled to pay a share of' the loss of condemned stock. It was resolved that the Government be urged to make an appeal to farmers to husband the breeding of stock with a view to increasing the dominion’s herds. PALMERSTON N„ July 8. After full discussion it was decided to, extend the scope of the conference to cover all matters of general interest to tho trade. It was decided —“ That the subject of the expenses of running municipal abattoirs bo brought under the notice of the Agricultural Department with a view of securing a just apportionment of charges.” The following motions were carried: — “That the Agricultural Department be requested to take into consideration the compulsory dehorning of all young cattle.” ‘ ‘ That the Agricultural Department be requested to communicate with the Railway Department to see if better provision can be made for railing cattle.” “ That it be a recommendation to butchers’ associations that efforts be made to teach boys the trade by assisting in the first place to organise classes at technical schools.” “That it be a recommendation to the delegates present to form a federation of master butchers, and that another conference be held in the near future with this object.”
