[Answered by a solicitor of the Supreme Court of New Zealand. Letters and Telegrams must be addressed to “LEX,” o/o Editor, Otago Witness, Dunedin.] Subscribing Farmer a-sks: " (1) Has a constable or other inspector the right to enter either freehold or leasehold property for the purpose of examining horses without 'having a search warrant or other authority from a magistrate? (2) -Must the constable wear his uniform on such duty? (3) How .;oes the law apply in the case of other inspectors?” Answers; (1) Yes. (2) No. (3) Every inspector under the Act has power to enter at any time on any land or premises for the purpose of inspecting any stock. Y. Z. wr'tes; “(1) I have had the use of a road through a neighbour’s l.i.p. property for 17 or 18 years. No road was surveyed, but I was allowed access to the main road through my neighbour’s property Can my neighbour now close the road? (2) How long does a road through private property require to be left open to become a public road?” Answers: (1) Yes. (2) No title to land can be acquired by possession or user adversely to the title of the registered proprietor of land under Ihe Land Transfer Act. In the case of land not under the Land Transfer Act the user of the land must be for 21 years, end .'■■ertain,formalities of law must be complied with before the land becomes a public road. Widow asks if a widow is responsible for debts contracted by her late husband. Answer: No, the widow is not personally liable but the husband’s estate is liable. Committeeman. —According to the eighth schedule of “ The Education Act, 1914,” the committee in question is entitled to an allowance of £SO per year.
