KAITANGATA MAGISTRATE’S COURT.

At the Kaitangata Court on the 17th< before Air H. A. Young, S.AL, the follow' ing cases were dealt with : . . Drunkenness. —H. Little,'for beta" drunk at the Stirling railway platform on the sth hast., was fined £l, with 7s costs. John Sampson, for being drunk at Kaitangata on the 12th inst. was fined £l. A Cyclist Fined.—John Hay, for riding a bicycle on the footpath; was fined ss, with 7s costs. Prohibition Order Case.—Alfred Crofl was charged with a breach of a prohibition order at Kaitangata on the 22nd Alay.— Oon'stable Alartin gave evidence _ that Croft was drunk on that date. —The information was dismissed. Defence Act Prosecutions. —For failing to register under the Defence Act several youths wo;c dealt with.—lt was pointed ouj by Constable Alartin that the public seemeo to think that it w-as the Police and Defence Departments’ officers’ duty to chase those “ shirkers,” but it was a idea Proclamations had been posted up in the Post Office and at tho Police Stations< there was no excuse for non-registration, Fines were inflicted as follow:—William Sutton £3, James Sutton I 5«, Robert Allan £3, (I Epiors £2, Albert Alee 10a, William Purr 15s, Harry Teuton £3, Aloses Pan £2, Charles S. D. Smaill 10s, George Tomkins £3, with 7« costs in each case. Robert J. Scott, Herry Sitncocks. and Herbert Alillar were each ordered to pay 7a costs, but no fines were inflicted.
