The East Coast railway, which is to link up Gisborne and Auckland, has been completed from Tauranga to Paengaroa (says the Poverty Pay Herald). The line has boon carried almost as far aa Pongakawa, and work is proceeding within a few miles of Matata. Tho route along the coast is very picturesque, running between chibs of pianico and the open sea.
