Tronch periscopes aro to be issued on the scale of 12 for each infantry battalion to all units of the new armies and Territorial Forces which go to the Continent. inquiring into the cause of the rise in coal prices in Great Britain shows that no fewer than 130,000 coal miners have joined the colours. It is this movement which has affected the coal supply (writes the London correspondent of the Yorkshire Post), and is, in the main, responsible for the rise in prices. There are contributory causes, but the absence of 130,000 of the best_ coal hewers must make a difference. A rise in the cost of the labour- left aggravates the difficulty for the coal consumer.
