ATTEMPTED SUICIDES.
PALMERSTON N., June 16. A sensational incident happened on a special troop train proceeding from Auckland to Wellington today. Archibald Thomas, belonging to the Thames, and a member of the Auckland Reinforcements, attempted to commit suicide by cutting his throat with a razor. (Shortly after the train left Ohingaiti a trooper asked Thomas for a match, but, instead of producing a matchbox, he pulled out a razor and slashed his*own throat in a most determined manner, inflicting a severe wound. He was immediately seized, and a doctor boarded the train at Hunterville and accompanied the injured man to tho Palmerston North Hospital. WELLINGTON, June 16. Private E. M'Ewen, 'about 24 years of age, attempted to commit suicide at Trentham to-day by cutting his throat. He was brought in to the city hospital, where it was found his injuries were rot of a serious nature.
