PARTY LEGISLATION IN AUSTRALIA
MELBOURNE, June 15. An uproar was created in the House by the introduction -of the , first Referendum Bill, Mr J. Cook (Leader of the Opposition) proposing to add as an amendment “As soon as provision is made by a Unity Government in Parliament for the successful prosecution of the war.” Mr Cook deprecated party strife during tin's crisis in the Empire’s history. It waa an unfair attempt to amend the Constitution with 60.C00 citizens fighting, and unable to vote. Mr Fisher announced that ho accepted the amendment as a want of confidence in the Government. Mr Anstey (Labour member for Bourke) has resigned his seat owing to friction with the Ministry.
