WANGANUI NOTES.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) WANGANUI, June 20. j A well-known settler of Waitotara, who ] had previous experience in shell-making, is leaving for England shortly to assist in j making shells for the Allies. j

Tho rain of the last few days has been extremely heavy in the inland districts, judging by tho amount of water now running down the river. The flood, in fact, is the heaviest for two or three years, and at low tide last night the level was fully up to that of high-water spring tides. An unusual amount of driftwood is coming down on the flood, the rate of which caused some anxiety last night to launch and boat owners, some of whom were busy securing their craft till u late hour. Mr A. Burnett, of Wanganui, is forwarding a further donation of £SOO to the local Patriotic Committee in aid of the Contingency Fund.
