OTAGO QUEEN CARNIVAL
THE COUNTRY QUEEN. A meeting of the Country Queen sup* porters was held in the Otago A. and P. Society’s rooms on the 16th. There was a, representative attendance. Mr James Begg (Mosgicl) was elected chairman of tho executive. The Chairman reported that Mr Hugh Mitchell had undertaken to act as secretary during the time the carnival lasted. Tho Chairman announced, amid applause, that Mr Charles Todd, of Messrs Todd Bros., Dunedin, had forwarded a cheque for £IOO, and, in a covering letter, he had suggested that, a silver-bullet campaign be instituted in aid of the Country Queen Fund. He undertook to pay for all the bullets required, and pointed out that this should prove equal to raising a considerable sum of money. The chairman said that, in order to get the best possible results, each country district should bo circularised and personally visited. He thought that the first thing to do would bo to set up a committee of ladies and gentlemen who would bo willing to canvass all the centres. It would be disappointing if the country districts could not put tjfoir queen on top. It had to bo remembered that tho city was supporting ten queens to tho country’s one. The country districts were united in their desire to win, and it was encouraging to find such unanimity, especially without having had a representative meeting of country residents to decide upon plan of action. He moved the appointment of a committee such as he had suggested l .
Mr Mitchell urged the necessity for working- hard to -achieve the best results. Ho was prepared to do his utmost for the cause, and ho only wanted the co-operation of those present, and he was satisfied all would bo well. The motion was carried.
