OTAGO QUEEN CARNIVAL

COLOURS” OF THE CANDIDATES.

ISSUE OF THE TICKETS.

At 7 p.m. on the 7th'the Otago Queen Carnival was put under full way, when the 11 gentlemen authorised by their executives secured books of tickets for their respective queens at the office of tho carnival in tho Stock Exchange Building. Each book con tains £1 worth of tickets, there being 120 (each of the value of 2d) in a book. As a. start £3COO worth of books —equal to 360.000 votes —wore taken delivery of on the 7th. Fresh issues will bo distributed as the sellers dispose of their allotted books. Streamers of the queens’ colours will bo flown at the Triangle, probably from Wednesday, showing tho daily position of each candidate. The top streamer will indicate the leader for the time being. Following are tho queens- nominated, with their distinguishing numbers and thencolours: — No. 1, “ Tho Country Queen,” Miss Ruth Smith —Green. No. 2. “ Queen of tho Seas,” Miss Sargood —Bluc-and-Gold. No. 3, “ Tramways Queen,” Airs Gordon —Blue-and-White. No. 4, “ Government Service Queen,” Miss Carson —Red. No. 5, ‘‘Port Queen,” Miss Mill— Grecn-and-Gold. No. 6, “ Our Soldiers’ Queen,” Airs R. Hudson—Red-and-Gold. No. 7, “ Queen of Commerce,” Aliss Downie Stewart —Blue-and-Red. No. 8. “ Queen of the Allies,” Aliss Jean Burt —Rod-White and-Blno. No. 9. “ Retailers’ Queen,” Aliss Emery—-Black-ATellow-and-Rcd. No. 10, Sports Queen,” Miss Belle ADEoan —Red-and-White. No. 11, “ Travellers and Warehousemen’s Queen.” Airs F. W. Alifcehell —White. The carnival is being carried out by the Otago Patriotic Association, and tho funds raised will be used for our wounded in battle and theix dependents. Country
