OTAGO EARLY SETTLERS’ ASSOCIATION.

The monthly meeting- of the committee was held in the Board Boom, Otago Early Settlers’ Hall, on Monday aiternoon; present—Messrs Donald Keid (president, in the chair), John Diithie, W. H. Ferens, Dr Fulton, W. N icoisou, G. Calder, A. B. Mercer, Mrs C. H. Hayward, Mrs M. Barnes, Mrs Sinclair Peden, Mr G. U. Proudtoot (hon. treasurer), and Mr John Wood (secretary). The following committees were appointed for the year: —Finance: Messrs G. L. Dcnniston (chairman), W. Nicolson, John Duthie, E. C. Hazlett, G. C. Proudfoot, and J. Wood. Museum: Mr W. H. Ferens (chairman), Dr Fulton, Messrs Donald Reid, jun., John MTndoe, A. B. Mercer. John Wood, Mrs O. H. Hayward, Mrs M. Barnes, Mrs Sinclair Peden. Hall: Messrs John Duthie (chairman), G. C. Proudfoot, John Wood. Social: Mrs C. FI. Havward, Mrs M. Barnes, Mrs Sinclair Peden, Messrs W. Nicholson (chairman), J J Clark, A. B. Mercer, John Wood. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr John Craig, Owaka, for the gift of three framed pictures of the city trams taken on the first anniversary after the opening, which took place on July 12, 1879. • The invitation from the Port Chalmers Old Identities Aesociation, to attend its quarterly gathering, was accepted. ; The secretary intimated that one of their members, Mr'W. Downio Stewart, M.P., had enlisted, and would in due time go to the front. Ho also mentioned that at least six members of the committee had sons at the front, or were in preparation to take their place there —Messrs W, H. Ferens, G. L. Dcnniston, John Hope, W. Crawley, John Wood, and Mrs O. H. Hayward. The committee, on behalf of the association, wished them and all descendants of Otago pioneo*s God speed and every success, and expressed every confidence that they would worthily uphold the name of Otago and Now Zealand. The following names of departed early settlers were recorded on the minutes: — Mrs Annie L. Mocking (76), arrived 1859; Mrs Isabella Lochart (nee Moir), arrived Sevilla, 1359; Alexander Dow (67), Robertson Henderson, 1858; William Affleck, Jura, 1858; William Shand (73), Phoebe Dunbar, 1850; John Campbell (75), Lightning, 1860; Mrs Marian Somerville, Jura, 1853; Mrs Sarah Reed (78), Victory, 1863; Sheddan Brugh. arrived 1357; Martin Fahey (90), arrived 1862; John Smaill, Strathallan, 1858; Thomas Porteous Farra (59), arrived 1861; Mrs Catherine Cunning-ham (84), Philip Laing, 1848; Henry Richmond (31), arrived 1859.
