The Arbitration Court has notified its intention to make a uniform Dominion award for boilermakers and engineers. Motor mechanics are to be included in the engineers’ award. News was received on Tuesday by the Hon. James Allen of the death of his son. Lieutenant John Hugh Allen. The sad news was contained in a cable, from the War Office, and was to the effect that it was reported from Alexandria that Lieutenant Allen has been killed in action, and that Lord Kitchener had expressed his sympathy. Lieutenant Allen was with the Worcester Regiment at the Dardanelles. The Dunedin Horticultural Society has a membership of 486, as compared with 513 in the previous year.
