THE UNION COMPANY.

ADDITION TO ITS FLEET. WELLINGTON, June 8. At a special meeting of shareholders in the Maoriland Steamship Company to-day it was unanimously agreed to approve of the directors’ proposal to accept the offer of the Union Steam Ship Company to purchase the former company’s fleet of three cargo steamers. The vessels concerned are the Lauderdialo (1214- tons), Enncrdale (1139 tons), and Holmdalo (267 tons). The sale will bo completed almost immediately. The Lauderdale is under charter to an Australian company (the Interstate Company, Sydney), and is engaged in the commonwealth coastal trade. The Ennerdale has been rurminn- between New Zealand and Australia for some time. The Holmdale trades on the New Zealand coast. Captain Charles M‘Arthur (managing director of the Maoriland Company) will continue to conduct the local agency of the Canterbury Steamship Company, the owners of the Calm, Petone, Breeze, and Storm.
