PICTURE SHOWS AND THE YOUNG.

ATTITUDE OF SCHOOL TEACHERS. At tho meeting of the Otago branch of the New Zealand Educational Institute on Friday the following communication was read from the secretary of the Auckland Technical School Teachers’ Association:— “ At a meeting of the Auckland Technical School Teachers’ Association tho opinion was expressed that some of tho moving picture entertainments are unsuitable for the many young children who attend them. I have been instructed to inquire whether your branch of the institute would bo willing to 00-oporato with us in drawing the attention of tho authorities to this matter, or in entering some protest with

respect thereto. The following is the text of the motion passed by our association; ‘ That the association expresses its dissatisfaction with the censorship of fi'ms shown at the kinematograph theatres in New Zealand, to which children are admitted without restriction, and urges that children under 15 be admitted only to specially censored performances.’ Your early reply as to whether you are in favour of talcing such action as suggested above would he esteemed a favour. The President (Mr W. W. Turner) said

the matter was one that must have exercised the minds of many teachers, and could not have taken those present by surprise. It was a matter they might make some motion upon, and he asked the meeting to consider it. and if they thought it wise move a motion.

Mr Davidson said ho thought that they should endorse the motion and approve of the resolution. Ho moved —“ That the mooting endorse the action of the Auckland Technical Teachers’ Association, and approve of the motion passed by them regarding the censorship of kinematograph films.” Mr Mechalis seconded the motion, which was carried.
