W. J. M. asks: “Is the time for new moon practically on the same day for all places in the world; or, in other words, is it new moon in 'England when it is new moon in New Zealand?” Answer: Yes, practically on the same day; but we in New Zealand are 32 minutes in advance of England. The statement in one of the newspapers must be incorrect. The calculations are made many months in advance, and it is easy to make a mistake. Regular Subscriber.—You can purchase the rules of the game of Five Hundred in most stationers’ shops if you buy a pack of cards. To describe how the game is played would take up more space than we, can spare. So cjthl ander. — Your proposal to use water-proofed calico instead of glass for a bouse in which to grow flowers does not appear to be a particularly good idea. Oil alone would scarcely render calico for a roof water-proof. Perhaps the manner in which sea : fisliermen water-proof calico for coats, leggings, , etc., would prove most suitable. Sitthtch the calico, or whatever material you intend to use, on a table. Make very thick paint of whatever colour is desired. Take in the left hand a. large lump of common brown soap, pretty freshly cut from a bar, and every time you replenish the brusn with paint rub well on the soap, and take up sfe much as possible, and rub well on one surface of the calico. It will take long to do, and the material should be hung in the windiest place you can find. Summer is the best time, but a month will usually see it m usable order, supple and perfectly water tight. When thoroughly dry and hung about, a second coat is advisable. This will dry in half the time of the first. Old Reader. —We cannot supply you with any address. The publication of advertisements concerning the article you refer to is prohibited, as it was found that the claims made on its behalf were not genuine. M. K. F. —Hardly up to the standard.
