This week’s sale was one of the smallest on record, and outside of the facts that fat steers brought £lO and dairy cows up to £ll 15s there is nothing worthy of mention. Business in stock has dropped to such an extent that no sale will be hold next week. There are sellers of sheep, but no buyers, and business by private treaty may bo summed up as a few fat wethers at up to 21s fid, and a small lot of store lambs at 12s fid. SOUTHLAND STOCK MARKET. (From Oue Own Correspondent.) INVERCARGILL, May 29. The amount of business in stock during the ■week has been very limited; in fact, one of the quietest weeks we have had for many months past has been recorded. The demand for store stock, both sheep and cattle, has practically gone off, although the holders of store sheep arc not going very largely on the market to sell. .Our turnip crops do not appear as if they arc going to turn out well, and graziers, expecting this, have been holding off from filling their requirements and taking more than they thought they could carry, while one or two who have a bit of feed are keeping it with the intention of buying a little later in the your. There is a fair demand for big bullocks, and it is confidently expected that prices for fat cattle will rule fairly high as soon as the works are able to take stuff. There arc not many good lines in Southland, but if prices rule high it is wonderful what.it vvill bring down. A fair inquiry is expected in six or eight weeks time for decent hoggets for shearing. Prices (which arc practically the same as lastweek’s report) may be quoted:—Fat cattle: Ox beef, 38s to 395; heifer beef. 35s to 36=; cow beef, 33s to 345. Fat sheep: Prime butchers’ wethers, 23s to 25s ; medium, 20s to 21s fid; prime owes, 21s fid to 22s fid; medium, unfinished, 18s to 19s. Store cattle: Three-year-old bullocks, £8 10s to £10; two-and-a-half-year-old, £fi 10s to £6 15s; two-year-old. £4 15s to £5; 18-months, £3 5s to £3 15s; yearlings, £2 10s to £2 15s. Store sheep: Two-tooth ewes, 19s to 20s; fourtooth ewes, 22s to 255; six-tooth, 21s fid to 22s fid; eight-tooth, 18s to 19s; tussock owes, 16s to 16s fid ; mixod-soxed lambs, 13s fid to 14s fid; ewe lambs, 13s to 14s; wether lambs, 12s to 12s fid; two-tooth wethers, 18s to 19s; four and six-tootlp. 19s to 20s.
ADDINGTON STOCK MARKET. CHRISTCHURCH, May 20. At Addington to-day there wore smaller entries of fat stock than last week, especially of fat sheep and fat lambs. There was a fair attendance.
