SHEEP DOG TRIALS.
MARAROA CLUB. Tho Mararoa. Collie Club held its second annual trials on the 14th and 15th May in lino weather. There was hard frost on each morning, and it turned out fine and warm on both days. Tho trials wore held in a paddock kindly lent by the Plains Station, which made an ideal ground for tho purpose, and there was a lair attendance' of spectators from the surrounding districts, Tho sheep, which were supplied by Burwood, proved to bo a fine lot of halfbicd wethers, which gave the competitors a hard job to yard in the Maiden; but on tho whole tho dogs were a very faillot. The iudgo (Mr T. J Tendergast) gave every satisfaction. Tho results were as follow: — Maiden (head, pull, and yard). Sixteen entries —J. Flyn’s Ned, 26 points, 1; J. Paterson’s Roy, 24 points, 2; (4. TUAPEKA CLUB. Tli© above chib’s trials wore hold in Messrs Potts Bros.’ paddock, near Lawrence, on Tuesday and Wednesday in beautiful weather. There wore not so many visiting dog owners as in previous years, and, as a consequence, the entries in the All-comers (the principal event on the programme) were much fewer. The local competition, however, showed a marked improvement, and, taken as a whole, the trials may be described as successful. Mr R. Sutherland provided good, strong halfbred sheep for the Maiden, All-comers, and Consolation events, and Mr M. Fahev the crossbred sheep for the Huntaway Trial. Mr D. Maider, of Waiwera South, was the judge, and his placing of the dogs was received with entire satisfaction by the competitors. The work shown by the various competing dogs was, on the whole, good, while in several instances it could hardly have been excelled. All the officials of the club worked hard for the success of the trials, and as secretary Mr IT. T. Thompson proved the right man in the right place. It is the intention of the club to hand over the balance over expenses to the Belgian Relief Fund. Results: —
