PALMERSTON NOTES.
PALMERSTON. May 17. The weather for the last tveck has been bitterly cold —severe frosts in the morning and bleak winds all day. The Palmerston, Entertainers wore very pleased with their trip to Waikouaiti, whereby the Belgian Fund was augmented by the sum of £3l. They were most hospitably entertained by the Waikouait^ Committee, who did everything possible ta help. The Palmerston Gun Club has decided ta hold its next shoot on Wednesday. In future the shoots will probably be held on Wednesdays and Saturdays alternately, so as to give all members a chance of attending. ampden will hold a carnival next month, and; there is great competition between that various “ queens.” The prevailing fooling in Palmerston is that the Moeraki candidal o will bo elected. An energetic canvasser on her behalf paid a visit a few days ago. and disposed of several books of voting tic kets. Football will soon ho in full swing - , huts it is doubtful whether a good team will bo available this year to represent Palmerston. Recruiting is still being vigorously promoted, and as a result eight more volunteers will leave this district at an early date.
