AEROPLANES AND ZEPPELINS
LONDON, May 18. The Allied airmen totally destroyed the German aviation ground at Ghistelles (south of Ostend). The sheds and many machines were demolished. The gunners at Dover believe they hit a Zeppelin, which headed for the English Channel with her' nore canted downward. Twenty-three incendiary bombs -were dropped on a field near St. Margaret’s Bay. The Daily News Dunkirk correspondent says that a French torpedo boat fired several shots at a Zeppelin flying low from the direction of England. One shot hit the Zeppelm, which crumpled up and dived into the sea near Gravelines (close to Dunkirk). Corpses were afterwai’ds seen floating in the vicinity. Advices from Amsterdam state that it is believed the Ramsgate raider reached Berchen (near Antwerp), after driving off a pursuing aeroplane. DUNKIRK, May 18. After attacking Calais, two Zeppelins were driven off, and flew towards Boulogne. The battery at Cape' Grisnez hit one, and the raiders turned back. It is reported that a disabled airship fell on the beach two miles from Dunkirk, and the crew were taken prisoner. PARIS, May 19. British aeroplanes, on the Yser attacked a Zeppelin. The bombs glanced off the envelope, but the tail of the steering-gear was destroyed. The airship, however, escaped.
