AN UNNATURALISED GERMAN.
PROFESSOR YON ZEDLITZ. (Feqm Oon Own Cohbe9pondknt.) WELLINGTON, May 19. On the teaching staff of Victoria College there is an unnaturaiised German—Professor von Zed'litz, —in the chair of modern languages. At a meeting of the College Council to-night the question whether ho ought to be allowed to remain a member of the staff w r as raised by Mr C. Wilson. Sir Robert Stout said he had considerable sympathy ’ with Mr Wilson in his protest because wc could not blind our eyes to the fact that our Empire was in great trouble in her struggle with Germany, but ho thought the proper thing to do was to ask the Finance Committee to see the professor and suggest to him that if ho wanted to be on our side he should got naturalised at once. He moved that the Committee confer with Professor von Zedlitz and report to next meeting.-—(“ Hear, hear,” and murmurs of assent.) The motion as proposed by Sir Robert Stout was carried without opposition after some discussion.
