A fair amount of business has been done in the stock market, particularly in sheep. At the weekly sale bidding was sluggish for store sheep, but subsequently most of these were sold at advances on previous rates. Fat sheep sold very well, wethers reaching 21s 6d, ewes at 23s 3d, while fat lambs ranged all the way from 16s up to 25s 3d, according' to quality and weight, the top figure being obtained for a pen of heavy lambs. The real business in sheep, however, has been done by private treaty, and some substantial lines have changed hands. Amongst these was a line of 1009 soundmouthed owes, for which 18s was given. A good-sized lino of two-tooth ewes was taken at 21s 6d, and another good line, composing two, four, and six-tooth owes, was placed at 225. Other sales have included the following two-tooth ewes from 17s 6d to 235, the top figure being given for a specially good lino, and the bulk of the business being from 20s to 21s 6d; full-mouthed ewes, 21s; full and failing-mouthed ewes; from 13s to 14s; four and six-tooth crossbred wethers, 18s 6d to 19s 6d; other wethers, 17s 9d; lambs, in forward condition, 16s to 17s; good rape lambs, 14s 6d; hill and tussock lambs, 10s 6d. The yarding of cattle at the weekly sale was not largo, and altogether the business in this class of stock has not amounted to much. Privately two-and-a-half-ycar-o!d to three-year-old bullocks have been sold in modest drafts at from £8 5s to £9. Other sales have been: 18-month steers and heifers, at from £3 to £4 10s; mixed yearlings, from £2 to £2 10s, and calves, for which there is a good demand, from 20s to 255. Dairy cows are in request, with few offering, and last week’s values were fully maintained. SOUTHLAND STOCK MARKET. (From Ouk Own Correspondent.) INVERCARGILL, March 13. Business in stock still continues to be good, there being plenty of buyers for all classes of decently forward sheep and cattle. The only sale of note during the week was at Otautau on Friday, when there -was a very large entry of sheep and cattle of all descriptions, 'liie attendance of buyers was very large, as is usual at Otautau March sale, and, although the bidding opened quietly at first, still, before many pens had been sold, buyers became keener. Though the prices may bo said to be not quite so firm as those ruling a week or two ago, yet a decline of 6d would cover any drop there may be. There is a good demand for good young ewes; but it is very hard to get really first-data stuff' of this sort. Good lambs for rape continue to sell well, as high as 16s for forward sorts being given. At the Wallacetown sale on Tuesday there was a large entry, but the demand was somewhat slacker for fat cattle and sheep. Freezing buyers were, also, not os keen as they were a fortnight ago, and, as a result, prices declined somewhat. However, it is certain that young ewes and good forward store cattle will he in good demand for the next few months, and good prices may be looked for. Prices were as follow:—Fat cattle: Ox beef, 39s to 40s; heifer beef, 56s to 375; cow beef, 54s to 355. Store cattle: Three year-old bullocks in forward condition, £9 10s to £lO ss; two-and-a-half-ycar-old, £6 5s to £6 15s; two-year-old, £5 5s to £5 15s; 18-months. £3 15s to £4 ss; yearlings, £2 10s to £2 15s; calves, 30s. Fat sheep : Extra prime, heavy butchers’ wethers, 24s to 255; medium, 22s to 235; extra prime heavy ewes, 22s to 235; medium and unfinished, 20s to 21s. Store sheep : Two-tooth ewes, 22s 6d to 235; four-tooth, 24s to 255; six-tooth, 23s to 23s 6d j eight-tooth, 20s to 21s; fresh and failing-mouth ewes, 13s to 14s; older ewes, 9s to 10s; culls, 6s to 7s; good rape lambs, 15s to 15s 6d; smaller, 12s 6d to 13s 3d; two-tooth wethers, 18s 9d to 19s 6d; four and six-tooth, 20s to 21s. ADDINGTON STOCK MARKET. CHRISTCHURCH, March 10. There was a very heavy yarding of store sheep at Addington to-day, but small entries of fat sheep and lambs, and a fair entry of fat cattle.
