THE DUNEDIN SERIES. KEEN COMPETITION. The Dunedin Wbolbrokers’ Association (Messrs Dalgcty and Co., National Mortgage and Agency Company, New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Otago Farmers’ Co-operative Association, Donald Reid and Co., Stronach, Morris and Co., and Wright Stephenson and Co.), report as follows;—’Wo hold a supplementary wool sale yesterday afternoon, when the a&soelated brokers offered about 1500 bales, contasting of lute shorn clips and stragglers lots. There was a largo attendance ot buyers, including a- good number of the oversea buyers, and competition was exceedingly keen. Prices for crossbred fleece were from Id to per lb above those of tlie February sale, while merino was also firmer. Pieces, bellies, and locks sold at about last sales’ rates,- and crutchings were Ad to 3d per lb dearer. A fair amount of sline wool was offered, and realised up to 18id for crossbred, and 20 Ad for lambs. STATE FIRE INSURANCE

A RECORD YEAR. WELLINGTON, March 9

The State Eire Department reports that 1914 was a record year. The net profits were £18,660, after setting aside £2091 reserve for unearned premiums and "£IOOO for investment fluctuations. The largest previous profit was £15,443 in 1913. The net income was £67,693, an increase of £6413. The net premium income was £64,635, an increase of £5228. Fire losses amounted to £28,109, against £27,975 in 1913. The ratio to income was 63.5, against 45.08 for the previous year. The reserve funds amount to £80,423, an increase of £21.752 j invested capital £68,996, an increase of £24,746.
