VALEDICTORY.
Major Wolstcnholmo, who has been in the employ of Messrs Herbert, Haynes, and Co. for the past 21 years, and who loft on Saturday morning for Trontham, was preeented by liis fellow employees, prior to his departure, with a handsome wristlet watch, suitably inscribed, and a travelling trunk. Mr John Haynes, representing the _ firm, made the presentation, and mentioned, among other things, that though they were sorry to lose the services of so valuable an employee, they were pleased to be able to give him leave of absence for so good a cause. On behalf of the employees, MiMartin spoke of the honour all felt in having a representative at the front. Throe cheers for Major and Mrs M olstenholmo brought a very hearty ceremony to a close. Lieutenant T. G. Johnston, on the teaching staff of the Mornington School, has received orders to proceed to Trcntham on Saturday. Word has been received that Dr Maxwell Ramsay, the youngest son of the late Mr Keith Ramsay, of this city, has been appointed a lieutenant in the Royal Army Medical Corps, and joined the Field Ambulance at Torquay on February 8.
