Heavy ram overnight made the track ai Gore a bit on the soft side at the opening, but as the day wore on the weather became beautifully line, and the ground dried up considerably. The showers which foil in (ho morning and the threatening aspect of the sky probably had tho effect of keeping the attendance a bit below what has been previously noticed on tho course. The improvements to the totalisator house _ and the now machines were much appreciated by the public, and the extension materially facilitated tho handling of investments, which ran to £ll,lll, or £550 above lust year’s figures. The Napier Park Racing Club’s autumn meeting was opened to-day in showery weather, but, in spite of the rain, the attendance was well up to the average. A total of £14,451 was put through the totalisator, as against £15,680 on the first day of the autumn meeting last year. Results:— OMARANLT HURDLE RACE, Oi T'Osovs, One mile and a-quarter. 1— Mr T. Cahev Davon led into tile straight, with several others lying handy. Kaminoha and Blackall drew up halfway down the straight, leaving Caher Davon in third position. Chatmos, Vascular, and Pikio were all m the rear. Ormoloid pulled up round the back. Caher Davon came fast over the last couple of furlongs, but was beaten for first place by two lengths. Sensitive could not stand up to the final sprint, and was four lengths behind the second horse. St. Fire finished fourth, Vascular and Chatmos were a bad last and second last respectively. Fair Rosamond headed the leaders at the home bend, but Sir Alba came up from the back with a great run down the straight, winning by a length and a-half. The same distance separated second and third.
