PROHIBITION CAMPAIGN.
NOISY MEETING IN WELLINGTON. WELLINGTON, November 28. The Prohibition party held a meetingin the Town Hall, which was crowded. A large proportion of the audience, who were opposed to the movement, demonstrated loudly against the speakers. At one stage the Mayor called the police to the stage. Mr A. R, Atkinson received the best hearing. He said the “ trade'’ .had stated that Lord Kitchener had not advised the troops to abstain from liquor. It would be Avell to quote his exact words. The speaker then read a statement, which included : “ Keep constantly on guard against any excesses. In this new experience you may find temptations both in wine and women. You must entirely resist both temptations.” Mr Atkinson inferred that the “trade” had manipulated Lord Kitchener’s message. A motion declaring the necessity of A’oting no-license and dominion prohibition was moved. The chairman refused to accept an amendment, whereupon the representatives of the Moderate party left the hall in a body. The motion was then put and declared carried unanimously.
