FIRES.
A FINE RESIDENCE DESTROYED. PALMERSTON N., November 25. A disastrous fire, which was discovered in Mr J. G. Wilson’s fine residence at Bulls at two o’clock this afternoon, resulted in its total destruction, together with the beautiful gardens surrounding it, with fences, ornamental trees, gates, etc. The outbreak was discovered by a servant Xt was then in the roof between the ser-
vants’ bedroom and the kitchen chimney. A strong wind was blowing at the time, which assisted tho flames to spread with marvellous rapidity. A largo number of local residents were quickly on the scene, but the fire had a very strong hold before the chemical engine arrived, and all hopes of saving the building wore abandoned. Through tho assistance of willing hands, a considerable quantity of furniture was saved. Tho building contained from 12 to 14 rooms, and was one of tho finest resi-
deuces in the district. Mr and Mrs Wilson, two daughters, and a servant were at home at the time. The insurances are not at present ascertainable, but it is understood that the building and effects are insured in the Farmers’ Union Mutual Insurance office.
