WELLINGTON NOTES.

(From Ouh Own Correspondent.) November 27. Messrs Dwan Bros., of Wellington, bad the bad luck to lose their promising colt Columbus, who succumbed to an attack of influenza on Tuesday night. He was by Vasco—Rosalia (Stepniak—Rosella), and won a double at the last Wellington meeting. He was trained by F. Carmont at Levin, and was expected to win a good race at the Auckland summer meeting. His owners were looking forward to him meeting Reputation in the Great Northern Derby. H. Kingan, the Trentham trainer, received an addition to his stable to-day. The local sport who races as “M. M. Eller - ton” purchased from Sir Geo. Clifford the three-year-old filly Commerce, by San Francisco—Safeguard. Rouma.nia, Mount Victoria, and Fashion Plate are the only Trentham-trained horses to compete at Feilding.' The local lightweights have gone up to ride at the meeting. By the Mocraki to-day three members of Mr E. J. Watt’s team were shipped to Sydney to join H. Raynor’s Randwick team. They are Athenic (who has not raced since ho won the Carrington Sltakes last Christmas), Queenlike, and French Rose. Splendid nominations have been received for the Woodville meeting. In consequence of the general election the date of the meeting has been altered to December 1 (after Feilding). Among those engaged are Expect, Marshal Macdonald, Bcrtrade, Sir Knox, and other performers, also Sandstream, who has been off the scene for two years. It is reported that Expect will not fulfil his Auckland Cup engagement. The High- ® don team will probably be at Manawatu and Mart on during the holidays. Mr J. H. Pollock, the Wellington handicapner. has gone to Rotorua for the benefit of his health.
