A bit of a diversion was created at the Tckapuna Jockey Club’s spring meeting during tile running of the Melrose Handicap by a buckj umping exhibition given by Blueform, one of the competitors (says the Auckland Star). When the barrier went up Blueform made no effort to leave with the field;, but commenced pig-jumping for about a furlong in an effort to get rid of his rider. The local light-weight (0. Brown) who had the mount, stuck to the horse in great style, but eventually Blueform got the best of it, and dislodged his pilot, who got a great ovation when ho walked back to the paddock. The incident caused some excitement while it lasted, a number of the spectators neglecting the race to watch Blueform's performance. The Railway Department has issued to holders of private sidings on the Harbour Board' property a circular requesting them to enter into an agreement in regard to the use of the sidings (says the Oatnaru Mail). Some time ago the department endeavoured! to levy a charge for siding rights; and a meeting o? these ; nt'i-st"d was b-V? f-> ■ v s . cuss the matter. As a result of that meeting it was pointed out that the siding rights belonged to the tenants as part of their leases with the Harbour Board, who in turn received the concession in exchange for the use of certain foreshore lands for railway Purposes. At tin* stage tlm matter was left in abeyance. The department is again bringing lip the matter, although in the meantime no mention is made of a charge —just the cost of the agreement papers.
