EARTHQUAKE SHOCKS.

WELLINGTON, September 30. Just after 1 o’clock to-day a sharp earthquake shock was felt in the city. Clocks were stopped, windows rattled, doors slammed, and buildings were briskly shaken. The direction appeared to be from south to north. Another slighter shock occurred 20 minutes later. About 0.15 a.m. a shock was also recorded m Wellington. . . . ~ Information has been received by the Marine Department from the Cape Campbell lighthouse that an earthquake which occurred there to-day disarranged the apparatus, preventing the light from being shown, and in consequence no light will be exhibited from the station until further notice. The department will despatch the lighthouse expert by the Hinemoa tomorrow morning to put the light in order. Due notice will be given when the ng 1 will be again exhibited. - n NELSON, September 60. A series of earthquake shocks was experienced at 1 p.m. and 1-20 p.m. to-day. BLENHEIM, September 30. A sharp shock of earthquake was felt here at 0.20 this morning. The duration was about half a minute. Two further shocks occurred to-day, one at 1.6 p.m. Sd another at 1.20 p.m.
