Tawhaki stands 16 hands, and is a rich bay with black points. He is a fino-pro-portioned horse, possessing a beautiful temper. Put with the «high vitality essential to make a successful Stallion. Tawhaki was got by Menscliikoff, one of the most successful racehorses that over raced in the Dominion. Menschikolf practically swept all before him, and won too D.J.C. Champagne Stakes, Great Northern Foal Stakes, Auckland Derby, Canterbury Derby, Canterbury Cup, Middle Park Plate Hawke’s Bay Guineas, North Island Challenge Stakes. Wellesley Stakes, etc. _Menschikoff also proved himself as a sire by getting Armlet, Undecided, Electrakon, Fabrikoff, Silver Shield, Roosevelt, Euis, and several other good winners in Australia and New Zealand. Mc-nschikoff was got by Stepniak, one of the most successful sires known to Australasia. Tawhaki thus comes in tail male from the world-famous Musket line, which is second in merit to none in the world. Armilla, the dam of Tawhaki, and Oharmilla, the holder of the Australasian record of 1.11 4-5, was "ot by Castor, sire of Record Reign, Canteen, Casket, Antarcs, Day Star, Cravat, Coronet, and other great performers. Castor has also proved a great sire of brood mares, getting, for instirce, Castorline, the cam of Soultline, the fastest horse raced in Australia. Armilla was herself a great winner, and belongs to the famous Locket family, which produced such great horses as Medallion, 'Achilles, Necklace, Necklet, Pendant, Chainshot, Thunderbolt, Ingoda, Collarit, and other first-class racehorses. Tawhaki unfortunately injured a tendon and cut short his career. He, however, won races, and ran second to Elvsian in the Derby 'beating Taskmaster, Kilwinning, Cronstadt, and others) and second in the Crcssy Welter (beating Miss Mischief, Effort, Nyland, and several others).
