In conversation with Mr James Howard, formerly of Thames, but now a successful oil launch proprietor of Kawone, Hokianga, a Star representative was informed that the Hokianga district was making great progress. The Native land wag being settled on, and both Natives and pakehas wore adopting a progressive policy. Communication on the western coast was not good, but the coaches now ran from Rawene on the western side to Whangam, and thus Auckland was reached in reasonable time. Mr Howard said the Hokianga district had a great future before it, and when means, of communication were improved it would rapidly forge to the front.
