A. AND P. SOCIETY.
SUMMER SHOW. The thirty-seventh metropolitan show of the Otago A. and i’. Society will be held ar Taliuna Park on Wednesday and Mhursduy. Splendid entries have been received, and some of the best cattle, sheep, and horses in the dominion will be forward. Wednesday, the first day of the show, will be devoted to the judging of sheep, cattle, pigs, and draught horses (breeding section), while in the afternoon a pppular programme of boys and girls’ pony trots and races will be presented to the public. Thursday is the popular day of the show, and a half holiday will be observed from noon. A large attendance of children from the various city and suburban schools is expected. No effort has been spared to present an attractive programme and to make the show u success, and the committee is confident that a very large attendance of the public will result. On Thursday morning the draught working horses, harness horses, hacks, and cobs and ponies will be judged. The afternoon will bo devoted to the grand parade of prize stock, jumping events, bareback riding, pony trots, races, and other exciting events. From the fact that over 30 wellknown competitors from all parts of the South Island have entered for the leaping and hunting contests, it is anticipated that some splendid competitions will bo seen. In addition to the entries given below, it is expected that a very appreciable further increase in the pony events will be received as post entries on the ground. A largo and varied exhibition of side show’s will be displayed under canvas, and will form quite a distinct feature, while it is gratifying to note that a fair display of mueijinery and implements will again appear on the ground. Sheepshcaring machinery will be running, and visitors will he able to witness sheep being shown by the most up-to-date machinery. The catering for the show will be in the capable hands of Mrs Bcatson, who will also provide light refreshments. Though the total entries in the sheep and cattle sections are slightly less than those of last year, exhibitors of high class stock are coming from Christchurch in the north to Invercargill in the south, and the quality will bo quite up to anything previously seen on the show ground. In the Border Leicester and Romney Marsh sheep sections the keenest competition is certain to result. As stated above a very fine exhibit of cattle in point of quality is assured, from the fact that several prizetakers at the Canterbury Show and most of the recognised breeders of shorthorns, Ayrshircs, Holstein-Fricsian, Jersey, polled Angus, and red polled cattle have come forward to try conclusions in the show ring. No doubt the keenest interest will be centred in the horse sections, and the display of draught horses will probably be the finest over brought together in tho dominion. A special feature of the show this year will lie the display of imported Clydesdale horses, and several high-priced mares, imported from Scotland, will also be on view for tho first time, and will no doubt attract very keen attention. In the harness and hackney classes excellent entries have been received, and many fine animals will appear in the ring. A special feature of the show' will undoubtedly be the steeplechase contests, as tho best leaping horses in the South Island have boon entered. Followers of tho dog fancy will have an excellent opportunity of examining some excellent specimens of the breeds, ns the Dunedin Fanciers’ Club is this year making a fine show of various dogs under the auspices of the society. An attractive musical programme will be provided, and, given fine weather, one of the best shows yet held under the auspices of the society will bo seen at Tahuna Park. The following is a comparative statement of entries for this year’s show and that of last year;—
