CONCERT AT PUERUA.
The monthly entertainment organised by the Puerua' Piano Committee was held on the 10th inst. in the Puerua Hall, which crowded, and the door-takings amounted to £lO. A cantata, entitled “The Frost Queen and Santa Claus,” performed by about 40 children from Waitapeka, Romahapa, and Puerua districts, trained by Mrs P. M. Renton, proved a great success. The stage was decorated with branches of holly and silver stars, and a large Christmas tree covered with frost and snow. Everything passed off smoothly, and each item was well and promptly given. The girls taking part wore white drosses, with silver bands and stars in their ham. and carried wreaths of holly. Tim principal characters were Queen Frost, Nellie Morton; Santa. Claus, Garnett Grant; Will of the Wisp, Linton Smith; Andy, the Irishman, Cecil Jackman; “Old Father Time," George Shiels; Edward, Jack Thomson; Lena. Annie Shiels; Alice, Olive Roy; Fannie, May Abcrnethy; Dora, Gwen. Thomson; Eva. Evalinc Jackman; -Lena, Thelma M'Eachcrn ; Wee Willie Wlnkie, Harold M'Eachcrn; fairies (Lightheart, Goodwill, and Content), Lizzie Crighton, Hazel Somerville, and Mary Murdoch. The fairies’ march, by 12 girls with silver crowns and wands, was particularly good. The closing item, a tableau, was loudly applauded. The chairman (Mr Grant) moved a vote of thanks to Mrs Renton, and also thanked the children for attending practice, their mothers, and Miss M'Lean, who acted as accompanist. After refreshments were partaken of dancing was indulged in to music supplied by Miss Judge and Mr Sarguison. The duties of M.C. wore carried out by Mr Grant.
