A Crimean veteran, Mr William Xeilson'. late of the 2nd Dragoons (Scots Greys), died at the Veterans’ Homo, Auckland," on the 17th, in his cijfhtv-seooncl year. The deceased served all through the Crimean war, and in the charge of the Heavy Brigade at Balaclava on October 25, 1854, ho was wounded. There were 4675 co-operative workers on the State’s paysheet during September, thp last month for which figures arc available. Of the total 2212 were engaged on railway works, 1904 on road works, 274 on public) buildings, 224 in connection with the development of water-power, and 151 on irrigation and water supply works.
