SMALLPOX EPIDEMIC
SYDNEY, November 18. One case of smallpox was reported today. November 19. Two cases of smallpox were reported 'n the city to-day, and three from Adelong. November 20. One case of smallpox was reported in the city to-day, also a second case at Mac Lean —that of a woman residing near the mill whence the previous case came. November 21. A proclamation has been issued by the Govemor-in-Council directing that anyone travelling from New South Wales must sign a guarantee to report himself to the authorities if any suspicious symptoms appear. This takes the place of compulsory vaccination for interstate travellers. No cases of smallpox are reported today. November 23. The Federal Prime Minister (Mr Cook) states that the smallpox embargo will bo lifted in a day or two. The outbreak of smallpox is apparently fairly in hand. No cases have been reported fpr three days. November 24. One case of smallpox was reported to day.
