BOY SCOUT MOVEMENT
LONDON, November 16,
In a letter to the press, Major-general Sir R. S. Baden-Powell, says that the Boy Scout movement is unable conscientiously to participate in Sir R. LucasTooth’s fund. It is not thought desirable to inculcate ideas of soldiering beyond those of self-defence into the boys before they are able to see things in their proper proportions. Cadet equipment is too expensive for the poorest, to whom the Scout movement specially devotes attention. Drill tends to destroy a boy’s individuality, and to make him part m a machine that is dependent upon others.
