FIRE AT A TIMBER MILL.

TAURANGA, November 13. Early yesterday morning a fire occurred at Omanawa Falls mill, belonging to Gammans, Tauranga (Ltd.). The small mill and planing plant were completely destroyed. The damage is about £3OOO. Over 100 men are employed at the mill, but owing to the strike it had closed down the previous day. The men had not left, however, and owing to their efforts and a good supply of water about a million feet of timber in stack was saved . Mr Gamman warmly praises the men for their willing assistance in fighting the outbreak. The mill plant was one of the most up-to-date in the dominion. The cause of the outbreak was probably a spark getting into shavings or from one of the locomotives. The insurances amounted to £ISOO in the Norwich office.
