GRAY’S BANKRUPTCY. LONDON, November 14. Roberts has served Thurston with n garnishee order not to pay Gray in connection with his match with Reece. AMATEUR SWIMMING ASSOCIATION. OTAGO CENTRE. The annual meeting of the Otago Centre, Now Zealand Amateur Swimming Association, was held on the 14th inst., the following members being present —Messrs J. A. Park (in the chair), J. Kilmartin, D. Bannatyne. W. H. Matthews, F. Given, A. Cannon, F. Scrivener, J. Wilson, and E. H. James (h6n. scecretary). The annual report presented stated, among other matters, that the past season had undoubtedly been the most successful since the inauguration of the association, much important work having been accomplished in its different branches. The most plished in its different branches. The Otago provincial championship had again boon won by 14. J. Dawson. Otago had not been represented at the New Zealand swimming championships. A good number of the silver cham-pionship-of-the-school medals had again been distributed among the Otago schools, and it was gratifying to report that a number of country schools had taken advantage of the offer. As usual, a fair number of proficiency certificates bad boon awarded, but there was still room for improvement in this branch of the work. With the advent of a central swimming bath there was every hope of a largo number of applicants for the awards next season. During the past season three new clubs had been affiliated to the centre, making a total of six affiliated clubs, the largest in the history of the centre. Mr Park, in moving the adoption of the report and balance sheet, remarked that on the whole it was the most satisfactory one presented for some time. The centre was evidentlv on the eve of a bright and prosperous future. Mr Matthews, in seconding the motion, congratulated the centre on the success that had at length attended the work of the last few years.

Lottera of thanks for school medals wore received from the Waikonaiti and Kaitangata Schools. The following officers were elected: President, Mr J." A. Park; vice-president, Mr C. F. Greenslado; hon. secretary, Mr E. H. James; hon.‘ treasurer. Mr A. Cannon; local consul, Mr D. Bannatyno ; handicappor, Mr F. Given; delegate to Now Zealand Council, Mr P. N. Rundlo.

Carpcnticr, who had been advertised to box Jim Lancaster at Geneva, actually met Abbott, manager for Bandmaster Rice. Carpentier pretended that he had fought Lancaster, who, he said, had proved a formidable opponent.
