LOAN OF SIX MILLIONS
PEKING, November 11
The French Industrial Bank of China has contracted to lend China six millions sterling. Four-iifths of this amount is to be devoted to public works. The remainder, it is believed, is destined for administrative objects, hence the Quintuple Syndicate is likely to object. November 13. President Yuan Shih-Kai’s coup is being followed by an administrative conference until Parliament is reorganised. Meanwhile, the President desires to abolish the Senate and to reduce the other Horse by one-half for the sake of economy and efficiency. The conference is purely a nominative one. The passing of the Budget and the drafting of a Constitution are tlie main business. November 14. A Manchu, armed with revolvers, has been arrested at the Palace. He admitted that he intended to murder Yuan ShihKa h November 17. It is officially announced that the Ad ministration Conference is advisory and does not possess the slightest legislative author Ay. LONDON, November 11. Speaking at the Lord Mayor’s banquet at the Guildhall Mr Asquith stated that the Government was anxious to see a stable government established in China.
