SOLICITOR'S BANKRUPTCY.
(Fkom Our Own Correspondent.) FEILDING, November 5. •The affairs of a bankrupt solicitor of Feilding, for whose arrest a warrant v/a» recently issued, were partly inquired into by Mr G. J. Scott, Deputy Official Assignee. at Feilding court house to-day. Mr Cooper, acting for the wife of the bankrupt, claimed the furniture as hi» client’s property. The official assignee said the property, and the house were mortgaged for £1650, and belonged to the wife. It was mortgaged for more than its value. Some discussion took place regarding tha dilatoriness of the Justice Department in apprehending the bankrupt. It was stated that ho had been seen in Sydney by New Zealanders quite recently. Ha had sent over a power of attorney to two Feilding men, both of whom refused to act, and had written letters. The meeting passed the following resolution ;—“ln view of the fact that it is most desirable in the interests of tha creditors that the bankrupt should oa apprehended and brought back to New Zealand forthwith; and inasmuch as there is reason to believe that the bankrupt by his assistance and explanation can save tha estate a largo amount of money, and that it is common knowledge that the bankrupt was in Sydney as late as a month after tlr issue of the warrant for arrest, and that the Sydney police have not been successful in effecting his arrest, this meeting of creditors urges that a member of the local police, personally acquainted with the bankrupt, be forthwith sent to Sydney to assist in his apprehension, and that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Die Minister of Justice.”
