Among tho arrivals from Home by the Oorinthic was Mr Thos. Milne, of "Locharbie, Dumfriesshire" (Scotland), who brings to New Zealand a flax-dressing machine, which he believes will bo a great improvement on any others yet introduced into New Zealand. There is a Government subsidy of £12,000 for the inventor of tho machine which will effectively deal with the dressing of flax and save all the by-products (as sot out in the provisions governing lifting of tho subsidy), and Mr MiTno im tends to apply for it. ’ A sawmill employee, named George Mcldrum, while sharpening a circular saw at Messrs Winger and Smith’s eawmill, Taumarm.ui. on Friday morning, had the misfortune to have one of his feet taken clean 1 olf by the saw.
